I have built an oxy-propane "forge" that is a straight torch that is supposed to be ignited by the pilot light flame from a "Weldit Gas Saver". The gas saver has been modified so that it allows the torch to come on when I step down on a foot pedal. This is to heat small items in the torch flame.

The unit is completed, the foot pedal works, the pilot light works, I purged the lines before use. I set the propane at 7 pounds as recommended for a #2 tip and the Oxygen for 35 pounds as recommended for preheat for the #2 tip. I lit the pilot light and turned it up fairly high. I opened the propane valves and stepped on the foot pedals. The Propane will not ignite. Even with the pilot light flame coming INTO the stream of propane. The pressure of the propane merely BENDS the top of the pilot light flame off in the direction of the stream of propane.

Before I get into endless experimentation can someone give me a hint if you have used oxy-propane. I did not have the oxygen on. There is no provision in this setup to bleed oxygen into the fuel. I know that acetylene will burn without the oxygen in an oxy-acetylene torch. Must I have oxygen added to the fuel to light a flame?

Dan, you said no one reads this site. I hope you are wrong.
