I got an email from the Folk School announcing the passing of Charlie Orlando. Those of you who have had a class with him, whether blacksmithing or knitting, know he was an excellent teacher. He was also the only blacksmith I know that forged in sandals. I guess he just knew where the hot steel was going! My thoughts go out to his family and friends. He will be missed.

My first John C. Campbell class was with Charlie and I had another later with him. He was special in many ways. My own memory of him will allways be "THE LOOK". If I was doing something wrong and glanced up he would be giving me "THE LOOK" and I knew instantly that I had to straighten up. It got so bad that even when he was behind me, out of my sight, I could feel a sensation on the back of my neck and would look behind me and find him giving me "THE LOOK". Let me echo Linda, He will be missed.

Yes, I got "the look" on many occasions! He never had to say it, when you saw his face you knew you did wrong. A great teacher and a great guy.
