I am a rookie so please bear with my ignorance in the communications procedures within this forum. At the last meeting I believe there was some some discussion regarding the purchase of swage blocks from OK. I would be interested in participating - how do I go about joining in the group order?
Thanks, Russ Crawford

First, Welcome Russ.
I beleive the price is $120 plus shipping. The blocks are about 60# and come in a 'As Cast' condition. In other words they'll need some cleanup before they can be used. Basicly smooth out the rough edges. Torch can give you more details.

I am working on getting the email list together for those who have asked about these.
The swage blocks

The same group has Anvil Cones now for $200.

I have started the conversation with their contact.
I will have more information and email our group.
Please send me an email if you are interested.

Definitely interested. Cone link wasn't working in the email last night, but it's fine now.

Update:
No information on shipping costs at the moment.
The Swage blocks weigh 65 lbs.
The Anvil Cones weigh 74 lbs.

Added 14 days later:

I have finally gotten shipping figured out. It is going to be $12.00 per item.

I mentioned the "Floor" cone as an Anvil Cone in a previous post.
These are 36" tall starting at 1 1/4 in diameter and spreading out to 10" at the base.
They have a 12" flange at the bottom so they should be really stable.
They have a tong groove built in.

Here is the plan, the deadline will be the April meeting at Jim Guy's.
Make your checks out to Alex Bealer.
That allows us to write one check to Saltfork Craftsman and one check for shipping.
I will order them on Monday after the meeting.

I sent out an email last night to those who told me they were interested.
If you have not told me you were interested, please do so As Soon As Possible.

Well, I trust everyone is starting on using their swage blocks.

Here is my first pass at a copper ladel, still have to do the handle.

The bottom turned out a little interesting.
When I heated the copper pipe, it turned black.
Then when I finished the shaping it in the 2 and 1/2 depression, I sanded it with fine grade sanding block. Leaving a marble like finish.

Hi All, For those of you that bought swage blocks and stands, the stands were a BARGAIN!! Torch. Lloyd, and Sean did an excellent job designing and building them.
On my old stand (that I built) I ran into a little issue that when I flipped my block to different positions, it would rock a little bit. This was an issue with the block, not the stand. I fixed it by shimming the corners as needed to make the block rest firmly in all positions. I used small triangles of leather (from the gauntlets of old worn out welding gloves) a little contact cement and the problem was solved. Just throwing it out there. Cheers, Mike L.

Has anyone found any useful techniques for getting a good clean surface on all of the swages without having to buy something to fit each (especially the round ones)? I haven't had much of a chance to clean mine, but I thought it was worth asking if anyone has ideas.

I started with a wire cup and will be progressing to 80 grit flap disc.
Will have to see if it needs more. Next project is a shovel.

Added 7 days later:

I am really grateful for Saltfork Craftsman and their swage block/Floor cones.

I went to their site this afternoon and was suprised to find this message.

NOTE: We have unexpectedly run out of swage blocks. Our foundry has been
purchased by a new corporation. It may be the middle to late August before
we have new castings. Please ... check back for updates."
