We met with the Museum folks this morning.

If you are planning on helping setup, I need you to send me an email.
For security, they need our names if we are there early.

Remember to wear your badge to identify you as a member of the guild.

Folks,

enlighten us about what the museum activity is all about. I assume something was discussed at the last ABBA meeting.

Thanks,

Dietrich

Dietrich,

We are having the meeting at the front door of the High Museum of Art.
Mike Dillion is the demonstrator.
Everyone is encouraged to bring their Portfolio or their best items.

We also have a meeting room at Colony Square diagonally across the street.
We will meet there at 9:30 and then proceed to the High.
Around 12:30 we will go back to Colony Square and have lunch and Iron in the Hat.

I have gotten us Group discount into the High.
Alex Bealer members get in at the Group rate.
They are having the exhibit Dream Cars

I hope you can get down here for this one.

Torch,

according to the calendar it is on August 16. I am at the ABANA conference in Delaware at that time. It does sound like a great event and having linked with the museum is making those folks a bit more attuned to metal art, I'd hope. May be post some pictures on the website. When we had the Southeastern show at the Madison Center many moons ago, I had heard from two museum curators that they had no idea about the artistic life of blacksmithing. If the Dream Cars event is anything like they had half a year ago in Nashville it is a must see!
Forge onward!

I hope everyone can make it.
Please remember to bring examples, your portfolio and business cards.
I am expecting fairly heavy foot traffic and quite a bit of interest.

I was really conflicted about missing the meeting at the High since I was attending ABANA and didn't want to miss that but I also was very upset to miss the High meeting. What did Mike forge for his demo? Did anyone take pictures to post? I'd love to see them.

ABANA was a lot of fun, and very well organized except for a lot of glitches at the auction. The weather was perfect and the venue was very nice. I got a new digital camera and as soon as I can figure out how to edit my pictures, I'll attempt to post them.

Congratulations are in order for Eddie Rainey--he is now on the ABANA board. It's an example of "be careful what you wish for." Prior to the membership meeting, I asked Eddie and Al McClure about the election and who to vote for since I didn't know who was running. We didn't come up with anyone, but we all talked about what ABANA should be doing. I asked Eddie if he would serve and told him I'd write in his name on the ballot. He said he would. When the membership meeting took place, there were three slots open, and the president asked for nominees. One name was proposed and seconded. He asked for others--deep silence. Finally, I stood up and nominated Eddie and Al seconded it. Eddie was not there at the time as he was having dinner with his wife. Since there were only two candidates and three slots, Eddie was elected by acclamation. When Al called to tell him, he didn't believe it and thought we were joking. He didn't believe it until the next day.

I think Eddie will be a good addition to the board, and I think we should all pitch in and help with suggestions and ask him if there are any tasks we can help with. Also--wouldn't it be great to have an ABANA conference in Georgia? We now have someone at ABANA that could introduce the idea.

Added 4 minutes later:

I also want to mention that Deitrich had a beautiful wine rack in the gallery. I thought it was one of the nicest pieces on display. I'll post a picture when I figure out how to edit and post.
