Celebrate Heritage Day at the Fowler House!
Saturday June 6,2009 from 12 P.M. to 4 P.M. the Historical Society of Forsyth County will host its Annual Heritage Day and Open House at the Fowler Farm located on Atlanta Hwy. just south of Cumming. There will be farm life demonstrations, olde-timey food to sample;such as cracklin' cornbread, fried pies, cookies, etc. Come take a step back in time with the family, tour the 10 acre farm, farmhouse and out buildings; such as a two story chicken house, two "modern chicken houses", get a feel of what it was like live and work on a farm in Forsyth County in days gone by. There will be quilting demonstrations, milk churning, weaving, making corn cob pipes, etc. Should be a fun day for all! Admission is free! However we do gladly accept donations to help with the "Up keep" of the place. Hope to see you all there. There should be something for all ages. You may contact us at 404-502-2854 or 404-502-2855.

Torch Mullins will be the BlackSmith Demonstrator.

Heritage day was quite successful.
I think they had about 300 people come through.
All of them stopped in to see an S hook or nail being made.
Thanks to Tony Bivens for the "sword" demo, all the kids loved them.
Of course, the wife had to remind me to ask the parents first.

I kept the forge running from 12:00 to 4:30, and as the old joke goes "boy are my arms tired" :)) :)) :)) .

I did something this time, I had not in the past.
Instead of taking Stock and then cutting it when needed, I listed out and pre-cut everything.
S hooks in 1/4 round and 3/8 square.
Nails 3/8 round.
As backup I took 3/4 for a Tripod (3 - 48" legs, 9" for the ring, and 12" for the hook).
After a couple of hours, I was glad I did not start the Tripod.
