The “John C. Campbell Scholarship” for up to $600.00 PLUS one half tuition scholarship provided by John C. Campbell Folk School to attend John C. Campbell Folk School to take blacksmith or related course.
These scholarships are reimbursement in nature, they are not awards of cash money. The recipient may notify the Secretary/ Treasurer of the dates of the class, the name and address of the school and request payment by presenting a receipt of payment, whereupon the Secretary/Treasurer will make payment in a timely fashion.
Awards are for an amount of money and are not designated as "full week", "weekend" or other stipulation. If the winner of a scholarship wishes to take numerous classes ABBA will reimburse up to the amount of the total award.

How awarded:
1. Drawings will be held at the April regular meeting.
2. There shall be only one application per member.
3. The application for scholarships will be printed in the newsletter.
4. Three names will be drawn for each scholarship, the winner and a first and second alternate.

The winner should notify the Secretary/Treasurer within two months of the drawing regarding his intentions.

It is the intent of ABBA that all scholarships be used, therefore, if the winner has not made his intentions known the scholarship will then be awarded to the first alternate. Likewise, the first alternate shall have two months from the date he is notified of his award to make his intentions known to the Secretary/ Treasurer, if the first alternate should fail to make his intentions known to the Secretary/Treasurer the second alternate shall be notified of his award and shall have two months to make his intentions known to the Secretary/Treasurer. Should the second alternate fail to notify the Secretary/Treasurer within two months of his intentions then the President shall make an award of the scholarship to a member at his sole discretion.

Scholarships are not transferable. If a winner of a scholarship realizes that he will not be able to use the scholarship they should immediately so notify the President so that the scholarship can be awarded to the next eligible member. Only one scholarship may be won by any member. If a member should receive any scholarship they shall not be eligible to receive any position as an alternate.

Eligibility:
    1. The recipient must be a member of ABBA for at least 6 months and must have attended at least 6 meetings during the previous 12 month period, including the month of the drawing.
    2. Members who have won scholarships in one year will be ineligible to participate in the drawing in the following year.
    3. Members who have outstanding obligations to ABBA (such as but not limited to: not current with their dues, outstanding-over due library books or tapes, or who have not full filled obligations incurred for previous scholarships) will be ineligible to participate in the drawing
    4. Scholarships shall be commenced before December 31 of the year of the award unless a request is made to the Executive Committee for an extension of time and such is approved by the Executive Committee.

Responsibilities of winners:
Members who are awarded a scholarship shall:
    • Within four months of the completion of the class submit an article to the newsletter. The article must include a few pages of how to make some of the items learned in the class.
    • Within four months of the completion of the class arrange to demonstrate class techniques at a regular meeting. Arrangements should be made through the Meetings Chairman.
