Odds are the $30/ton is in bulk. They will charge more to bag it. It may be worth while to get it in bulk if you had a bin to keep it in. Maybe something like an old time wood box next to the shop.

However, could we mix both, may be 50/50? And $8 per 50 lb bag sounds enticing, especially if we can get the bitumenous type for the same price. On the appalachian blacksmith chapter website they list coal suppliers in WV and NC selling for $30 per ton in larger quantities. The Forge welding class was good but I had very little success at getting the peices to weld together. I've bought their coal several times and it's always been high quality. They are up the street from Linda Holmes-Rubin's, and I've gotten coal before the meeting. Ga Farrier Supply is closed on Saturday, however. What they do is to sell you something over the phone and will have it outside their gate Saturday morning for pickup (small items in a drop box, coal stacked up).
