Call to members who want to assist and attend the Sandy Spring Festival this Saturday the 26th and Sunday the 27th. Members who want to help with demos, display their artwork, and sell their work at the festival should contact Houston White to coordinate. We have a prime spot and a great opportunity to showcase the Alex Bealer Blacksmith Association to a large crowd.

We can set up on Friday afternoon for the festival on Saturday and Sunday

Houston's contact info can be found in the members area HERE

Tony Bivens, Thomas Cooney and I had a great time last weekend at the Sandy Springs Historic Festival last weekend. There were lots of people from Sandy Spring and Atlanta in Attendance. We set up one of the ABBA tent/tarps to protect us from the rain downpour on Saturday. Our purpose at the festival is to show historic blacksmithing from the 1840's through 1880's. Our demo spot is in the historic Sandy Springs Park(the actual location of the original Sandy Spring). We set up the forge equipment with one coal forge and over two days burned a bag of my coal. Tony brought a number of blanks for the Celtic Cross pattern from Anvil-fire and we all had a chance to make a number of crosses each. We had the ABBA forging teaching boards hanging around the tent and we were able to do a good bit of teaching to the audience. We made some leaves and I made at least one J-hook for nailing to a post. Thomas brought down his wonderful forged and welded Pastry tables with custom Marble tops. He has five tables he has made so far. He also brought down some of his metal artwork. Tomas Cooney's Art Studio, Steel Berry Barns, is in Waleska GA.. Thomas had a number of inquiries about his Pastry Table Art and we hope that leads to some future sales for Thomas. But, best of all, Thomas was invited to apply for the Thomsen GA Art Festival due to the high quality of his work. Only Artists with a very high quality are invited to attend and his American Pastry Table art should do well at this festival. We had the ABBA sign in a central position and had a number of inquiries from potential members. This is the third year Sandy Springs has invited us to their festival and they really value our participation. Thanks to Tony and Thomas for their hard work,
Houston
